Brand FAQ

FairPrice FAQ

  • What is FairPrice? FairPrice, formally known as NTUC FairPrice, is Singapore's largest supermarket chain and a household name for generations of Singaporeans. Founded with a social mission to keep everyday essentials affordable, FairPrice has grown from a single neighbourhood supermarket into a vast retail group serving hundreds of thousands of shoppers daily across the island.
  • When was FairPrice founded and what is its history? FairPrice was established on 22 July 1973 by the labour movement β€” then known as NTUC Welcome Supermarket β€” in Toa Payoh, with the specific goal of moderating the cost of living during a period of rampant inflation and rising oil prices. Singapore's then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew personally opened the very first outlet. By early 1977, there were already eight NTUC Welcome stores across public housing estates. In 1983, NTUC Welcome merged with another union co-operative, the Singapore Employees Co-operative, to form NTUC FairPrice Co-Operative Limited β€” the entity we know today.
  • Who owns and runs FairPrice? FairPrice is a co-operative of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), Singapore's national trade union centre. It operates as a social enterprise under the broader FairPrice Group, which also oversees Cheers convenience stores, Unity pharmacies, and Kopitiam food courts. The current Group CEO is Vipul Chawla.
  • How many FairPrice outlets are there in Singapore? FairPrice Group operates over 230 supermarket outlets islandwide, in addition to over 160 Cheers convenience stores. When counting all formats and affiliated brands across the group, FairPrice has a retail presence at more than 570 locations across Singapore β€” making it by far the most accessible supermarket network in the country.
  • What store formats does FairPrice operate? FairPrice runs several distinct store formats to cater to different shopper needs. The standard FairPrice supermarkets are found predominantly in HDB heartland estates and neighbourhood malls, stocking everyday essentials at accessible prices. FairPrice Finest is the premium format, offering a curated selection of quality and specialty products alongside the usual grocery range. FairPrice Xtra is the hypermarket format, combining a full supermarket with non-grocery items like electronics, clothing, and household goods. FairPrice Xpress serves commuters and time-pressed shoppers at petrol stations and smaller locations with a focused range of daily essentials.
  • What products does FairPrice carry? FairPrice offers a comprehensive range covering fresh produce, chilled meats, seafood, dairy products, frozen food, packaged groceries, beverages, snacks, bakery items, household supplies, personal care, baby products, and health items. FairPrice Xtra locations go further, also stocking clothing, electronics, and general merchandise, making them a true one-stop destination.
  • Does FairPrice have its own house brand products? Yes. FairPrice carries a well-established range of house brand products under labels including the standard FairPrice brand, FairPrice Gold (premium), and Pasar (fresh produce). These own-label products are generally priced around 10 to 15 per cent less than equivalent name-brand items, giving budget-conscious shoppers a reliable and affordable alternative without compromising on quality.
  • Does FairPrice have a loyalty programme? Yes. FairPrice operates the Link Rewards programme, where shoppers earn Linkpoints on purchases made across all FairPrice formats as well as other FairPrice Group outlets including Unity and Cheers. NTUC union members and FairPrice members receive additional patronage rebates on top of their regular Linkpoints. Points can be accumulated and redeemed to offset future purchases. The FairPrice Group app makes it easy to track and use your Linkpoints seamlessly in-store and online.
  • Does FairPrice offer discounts for seniors and vulnerable groups? Yes, and this is one of FairPrice's most valued social commitments. Senior citizens, Pioneer Generation cardholders, Merdeka Generation cardholders, and CHAS (Community Health Assist Scheme) Blue and Orange cardholders are all eligible for daily discounts on eligible purchases at FairPrice stores. As of 2026, CHAS Blue and Orange cardholder discounts have been doubled to 6 per cent, and these schemes have been extended to run until 31 December 2026. FairPrice has also integrated MyInfo into its app so that eligible shoppers can have discounts applied automatically at checkout without hassle.
  • Does FairPrice accept CDC vouchers? Yes. CDC (Community Development Council) vouchers are accepted at all FairPrice, FairPrice Finest, and FairPrice Xtra stores islandwide. Shoppers can stack CDC vouchers with other promotions, discounts, and Linkpoints redemptions for maximum savings. The current round of CDC vouchers is valid until 31 December 2026.
  • Can I shop at FairPrice online? Yes. FairPrice offers full online grocery shopping at fairprice.com.sg and via the FairPrice Group app. Deliveries are available to HDB estates, condominiums, and landed properties across Singapore, and a Click & Collect option is also available for shoppers who prefer to pick up their orders in-store.
  • What is FairPrice's price freeze initiative? In response to global cost pressures, FairPrice has frozen prices on over 500 daily essentials β€” including house brand rice, cooking oil, eggs, fresh and frozen pork and chicken, Milo, milk, and detergent β€” to help Singaporean households manage their grocery budgets. This price freeze has been extended to at least 31 August 2026, reflecting FairPrice's long-standing social mission to keep staples within reach during economically challenging times.
  • Is FairPrice embracing technology and innovation? Very much so. FairPrice Group launched its "Store of Tomorrow" programme in partnership with Google Cloud in 2025, piloting AI-powered supermarket technologies at its Punggol Digital District outlet. Features include smart shopping carts with built-in displays and scan-and-go checkout, digital price cards that show real-time promotions, and the Grocer Genie AI app for store staff. By end-2026, over 1,300 smart carts are set to be rolled out across 48 FairPrice Xtra and Finest outlets islandwide.
  • How do I find my nearest FairPrice outlet? You can locate any FairPrice outlet using the store locator on fairprice.com.sg or via the FairPrice Group app. Outlets can also be browsed by neighbourhood and MRT station at supermarket.sg/brands/FairPrice/.
