Bukit Merah is a mature HDB town in the central-south region of Singapore, bordered by Queenstown to the west and the Greater Southern Waterfront to the south. One of Singapore's older estates, it has undergone significant rejuvenation in recent years and offers residents a central location at relatively accessible price points compared to surrounding districts.
Amenities & shopping IKEA Alexandra, with its adjacent Anchor Point mall, is a major draw for residents and visitors alike. Tiong Bahru Plaza serves the north of the estate with supermarkets, retail, and dining. The iconic Tiong Bahru Market and Food Centre is one of Singapore's most celebrated hawker destinations. NTUC FairPrice and Cold Storage outlets are spread across the estate. Crescent Girls' School and Gan Eng Seng School are among the established schools in the area.
Transport & accessibility Redhill MRT and Tiong Bahru MRT on the East-West Line serve the northern parts of the estate, with Labrador Park MRT on the Circle Line covering the southern waterfront area. Alexandra Road and the AYE provide quick road access to the CBD, Harbourfront, and the west. Buses along Queensway and Alexandra Road connect to surrounding estates.
Community & attractions Tiong Bahru, at Bukit Merah's northern edge, is one of Singapore's most characterful precincts — its 1930s art deco-influenced housing blocks, independent bookshops, specialty cafés, and weekend farmers market draw visitors from across the island. Mount Faber Park and Labrador Nature Reserve offer elevated green space and coastal walking trails along the estate's southern boundary.
