Jurong East is the commercial and transport hub of Singapore's western region, designated as a regional centre and earmarked as the future site of Singapore's second CBD — the Jurong Lake District. Though compact in residential terms, it punches far above its size in terms of amenities, employment, and connectivity, serving the entire western and north-western region.
Amenities & shopping JEM, Westgate, and IMM form one of Singapore's largest mall clusters, collectively offering a cinema, IKEA, supermarkets, and hundreds of dining and retail options within walking distance of each other. Big box retail including Giant and Courts anchors the IMM complex. The Jurong East hawker centre and market at Block 347 provide affordable local dining. NTUC FairPrice and Sheng Siong branches serve residential needs. Jurong East is also home to several key institutions including the planned Jurong Region Line terminus and the upcoming Jurong Lake District commercial precinct.
Transport & accessibility Jurong East MRT is one of Singapore's most important interchanges, connecting the East-West Line and the North-South Line. The upcoming Jurong Region Line will add a third interchange dimension, making it a genuine multi-line hub. Jurong East Bus Interchange is among the largest in the west. The AYE, PIE, and Pan-Island Expressway provide extensive road access across the island.
Community & attractions Jurong Lake Gardens, Singapore's third national garden, wraps around Jurong Lake and offers lakeside pavilions, an extensive water playground, and cycling paths. The former Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden sites have been incorporated into the expanded park. The Jurong Lake District masterplan — spanning decades of development — will eventually bring office towers, hotels, a convention centre, and waterfront retail to transform this precinct into a major economic hub for western Singapore.
