Sembawang is a residential town in the far north of Singapore, historically shaped by its British naval base heritage before transitioning into a civilian HDB town from the 1990s. It retains a quieter, more spacious character than most Singapore estates and continues to see new residential and commercial development, particularly around the Canberra precinct.

Amenities & shopping Sun Plaza is the main retail mall, offering a supermarket, food court, and everyday shops near Sembawang MRT. Sembawang Shopping Centre, a relic of the naval base era, provides a quirky mix of independent retailers and eateries. The newer Canberra Plaza, adjacent to Canberra MRT, serves the growing population in the southern part of the town with supermarkets and hawker dining. NTUC FairPrice and Sheng Siong branches are available across the estate. Sembawang Primary, Wellington Primary, and Canberra Secondary are among the schools in the area.

Transport & accessibility Sembawang MRT and Canberra MRT on the North-South Line connect residents to Woodlands, Yishun, and the city. Bus services cover the full estate and connect to Yishun interchange for broader network access. The Seletar Expressway (SLE) provides the main road link to the rest of Singapore, with the CTE accessible from the south.

Community & attractions Sembawang Park, at the northern tip of the estate, offers a rare seafront park experience with views across the Straits of Johor and a preserved heritage bungalow area once occupied by British naval officers. Sembawang Hot Spring Park — Singapore's only natural hot spring — is a unique community attraction. The Canberra estate's newer parks and connectors add green infrastructure for more recent residents.
