Supermarkets and Grocery Stores in Kampong Glam

Kampong Glam is one of Singapore's most historically layered precincts, located in the central region between Bugis and Lavender. Established as the Malay and Arab quarter under Raffles' 1822 town plan, it is today a gazetted conservation area that balances its Islamic cultural heritage with a thriving independent retail, dining, and nightlife scene that draws both locals and visitors.

Amenities & shopping Arab Street and Haji Lane are the twin commercial spines of the precinct. Arab Street is lined with textile merchants, carpet sellers, and rattan goods shops that have traded here for generations. Haji Lane — one of Singapore's narrowest and most photogenic streets — is now dominated by indie fashion boutiques, specialty cafés, cocktail bars, and brunch spots. Muscat Street and Baghdad Street add further dining variety, with Turkish, Middle Eastern, and Malay restaurants serving the area. Beach Road and Bugis Junction are within walking distance for supermarkets and broader retail. Sultan Plaza and Golden Landmark serve the area's South Asian and Muslim community.

Transport & accessibility Bugis MRT (East-West and Downtown Lines) is the closest interchange, a short walk from Haji Lane and Arab Street. Nicoll Highway MRT on the Circle Line also serves the eastern edge of the precinct. Multiple bus routes run along Beach Road, Victoria Street, and Arab Street. The PIE and ECP are accessible by car. The precinct is highly walkable and well-connected to the Colonial District and Marina Centre on foot.

Community & attractions Sultan Mosque — one of Singapore's most recognisable landmarks — dominates the Kampong Glam skyline and remains an active place of worship at the heart of the precinct. The Malay Heritage Centre on Sultan Gate occupies the former Istana Kampong Gelam and documents the history of Singapore's Malay community. The precinct is particularly lively during Ramadan, when Bussorah Street transforms into a night market with Malay and Muslim food stalls drawing long queues well into the evening.
