Few malls in Singapore carry the atmospheric weight of history quite like Parklane Shopping Mall — a 10-storey commercial building at 35 Selegie Road in Rochor that has been part of the city-fringe retail landscape since 1 December 1974. Developed on a 99-year leasehold by GuocoLand, and sitting at the intersection of Selegie Road and Prinsep Street midway between Little India and Orchard Road, Parklane is one of Singapore's oldest surviving shopping malls — its vintage fittings and well-worn corridors giving it an old-school character that a generation of Singaporeans associate with early LAN gaming culture, affordable music equipment, and neighbourhood eateries.

The mall's retail character today leans toward specialty services, entertainment, and F&B: basement units house McDonald's, music instrument shops, nail and beauty salons, and KTV lounges, while upper floors accommodate office space, beauty and wellness providers, and a small clutch of specialty retailers. Despite its age, the mall remains a practical destination for the surrounding Selegie–Rochor residential and office community, and its position within the fringe arts district — near the School of the Arts (SOTA), SMU, the Singapore Art Museum, and Dhoby Ghaut Green — gives it a creative, eclectic flavour.

Bencoolen MRT Station (DT21) on the Downtown Line is approximately 450 metres away — a five-minute walk. Bras Basah MRT (CC2) and Dhoby Ghaut MRT (NS24/CC1/NE6) are also within easy reach, making Parklane one of the most MRT-accessible heritage malls in Singapore.
