Far East Plaza

On Orchard Road's most storied side street, Far East Plaza at 14 Scotts Road has occupied its corner of Singapore's premier shopping district since 1982 — and in over four decades, has cultivated a character entirely unlike any other mall on the strip. Where the flagship malls of Orchard Road trade in global luxury brands and polished retail environments, Far East Plaza has always belonged to the independent, the irreverent, and the bargain-savvy: a six-storey freehold complex of around 800 retail shops and food-and-beverage outlets developed by Far East Organization, housing a dense ecosystem of indie fashion boutiques, K-pop accessory shops, tattoo studios, barbers, nail salons, affordable tailors, halal eateries, and coffee shops that draw a devoted following of students, young professionals, and fashion subculture enthusiasts.

The mall's identity as Singapore's "Fashion Incubator" was cemented through the 1980s and 1990s, when it served as the launchpad for homegrown streetwear brands and youth culture — a legacy it still carries, albeit in evolved form, with Korean-imported fashion, cult sneaker resellers, vintage finds, and customisation services now dominating the upper floors. The basement and ground levels house a busy mix of local and halal dining options, while the Far East Plaza Residences — 139 serviced apartments — sit above the retail podium, giving the development a live-work character unique on Orchard Road. With no major anchor tenant and rents far below those of neighbouring malls, Far East Plaza remains a rare democratic space on Singapore's most exclusive retail street.

Orchard MRT Station (NS22/TE14) is a short walk away via Exit A. Scotts Road bus services including 105, 143, and 190 stop directly outside, and the Orchard Road underground pedestrian link connects the area to ION Orchard and Ngee Ann City.
